1. Select a Blood Drive Coordinator/Pick a Blood Drive Date
A junior/senior combination works well for year-to-year continuity and for promoting the drive throughout the school. A faculty advisor must oversee the committee; Select a date that won’t interfere with major athletic or school-wide events.
2. Organize a Committee Meeting
The Blood Bank’s School Program Coordinator will meet committee members at your school to review goals, tasks, and to distribute planning materials.
3. Hold an Assembly and Recruit Donors
A Blood Bank representative is available to make a presentation at your school about the need for blood donors and will describe the donation process. The assembly also serves as the “kick-off” to recruiting donors. Students then recruit their peers to give blood
4. Assist on the Day of the Drive
Student volunteers will meet Blood Bank staff to help set-up the blood drive area, assist donors in the canteen “post-donation” area, and break down the drive at the end of the day.
5. Recognize Donors at Your School
After the blood drive, students and staff members who gave blood should
be thanked for their lifesaving contribution. Recognition suggestions include
thanking donors through the student newspaper, the public address system, or
an “honor roll” posting in the cafeteria.
