POPULAR 5K EVENT HELPS RAISE AWARENESS OF INCREASED NEED FOR BLOOD IN SUMMER

WHAT: Blood Bank of Delmarva's 6th annual Summer Blood Challenge 5K Walk/Run

WHERE: Frawley Stadium on the Wilmington Riverfront - the course is flat and fast!

WHO: Last year, a record 720 runners and walkers registered for the event.

"This is consistently one of my company's largest 5K events and I expect this year to be even bigger," said Wayne Kursh, president of races2run. Races2run manages 5K and marathon events throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey.

Runners and walkers competing in the Summer Blood Challenge will earn a point for participating in the 5K. The Summer Blood Challenge is a competition between 128 employers on Delmarva to recruit the most new Blood Bank members and blood donors. With the theme "Run for Life, Hero for Life," this year's 5K is designed to raise awareness of the importance of blood donations, especially during the critical summer months when fewer people typically give blood. The 5K Walk/Run is a good way for participating employees to get involved in the competition and earn points, even if they are not able to donate blood.

WHEN: Saturday, July 19 - Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Race begins at 8:30 a.m.

All proceeds from the 5K Walk/Run benefit Blood Bank of Delmarva. For more information on the race and to register online, click HERE.
