Why Sponsor a Group Membership Plan?
Employers that sponsor a group membership plan praise it for being an easy way to support the community and boost morale within their organization. They are also increasing benefits for their employees since group members receive unlimited blood coverage for themselves, spouse, and all tax dependents at any hospital in the U.S. that charges for blood or requires replacement.
Eligibility and Costs
A minimum of 5 members must enroll in order to establish and maintain a group. Membership is open to all employees or members of the sponsoring organization. Anyone can join, regardless of age, health or eligibility to donate blood. Members do not need to qualify as blood donors, since other options are available to provide a pint of blood.
Annual Dues
Dues are $5 per member per year. One membership covers the entire family (spouse and tax-dependents). Many group sponsors pay the dues as a fringe benefit.
Senior Citizen Plan
Senior citizens receive special discounts. After the first year, annual dues are just $2 for those 65 or older. Members age 75 and older are not asked to take a turn providing blood, nor are those age 70 to 74 with 25 years membership.
