ELKTON, Md. – The Terumo quarterly blood drive, fall edition, booked 58 donors on Friday, September 5, and additional walk-ins inspired by the story of Maverick Ford Painter boosted the total number of donations to 70 red cell units.
“I want to extend a sincere thank you to all of the generous blood donors that helped to us bring our Maverick Week 2024 Blood Drive to completion today,” Drive Coordinator Stephanie Eskridge said. “Thanks to our Terumo Medical Corporation and Terumo Cardiovascular supervisor and associate support to actively recruit a record 20 walk-in appointments during the event, your generous donations and support, Maverick Week was a resounding success.”
Eskridge gave a special shoutout to Anthony Beaudean and Jason Painter (Maverick’s father) for encouraging fellow Terumo associates, including first-time donors like Kayla Stratton, “to contribute to society through healthcare.”
Indeed, several donors were inspired by Painter’s son, Maverick, to donate. Maverick needed eight transfusions after he was born prematurely on September 3, 2018. In addition, all Terumo employees received a pool towel in honor of Maverick, whose sixth birthday theme was “splashing into six.”
Among the Terumo associates donating were Nicolette Chahalis, Autumn Russell, Kyle Gillis, and Christopher Horning.
“I’m healthy, and I might as well give back to the community,” Chahalis said. “My cousin received a blood transfusion.”
