A New Year’s resolution to give blood
It’s time for New Year’s Resolutions once again, and blood donor Erica Boatwright can tell you they are not all taken in vain.
Boatwright made a resolution to give regularly in 2018 when her children were in school or her husband could watch the kids. She was successful in her endeavor as she donated platelets twice at Christiana Donor Center in 2018 –on Jan. 9, 2018 and March 6, 2018 – and whole blood on March 29, 2018 and Oct. 1, 2018 at the Hockessin Athletic Club.
“I just thought I’m very lucky to be happy and healthy. Let me do something for someone else,” Boatwright said. “It doesn’t take much time. And I have higher hopes for this year.”
Indeed, she is booked for her next appointment on Jan. 7, 2019.
Boatwright’s successful resolution is pretty good since, according to the “Book of Odds,” only one in eight Americans will actually keep their New Year’s resolutions.
But, don’t let the odds discourage you. If you have not made your New Year’s resolution yet, please consider making a pledge to give blood regularly. Whole blood donors can give five to six times per year, double red cell donors can give up to three times per year and platelet donors can give up to 24 times per year.
