NORTH EAST, Md. – The In Honor of Hunter McCoy Blood Drive celebrated a 4-year-old boy’s successful battle against childhood cancer and brought in 31 donors to the North East VFW on Friday, April 4.
After being diagnosed with a brain tumor, Hunter’s treatment included brain surgery and chemotherapy, supported by more than 100 lifesaving blood transfusions. Today, he has continued to improve, and he receives regular checkups at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
This biannual event is organized by Connor Bouchelle, proprietor of Cedar Springs Farm. Bouchelle, who is both Hunter’s aunt and the best friend of his mother, Jordyn Yedinak, has made it her mission to give back by ensuring others have access to the blood products that once helped save her nephew’s life.
Bouchelle’s event, held with Blood Bank of Delmarva, allows loyal donors to donate twice year, in autumn and spring. Community members are encouraged to make a donation at a future In Honor of Hunter McCoy Blood Drive, or at any Blood Bank of Delmarva location near them. Visit delmarvablood.org to learn more.
