SALISBURY, Md. – Blood Bank of Delmarva reopened the Salisbury Donor Center much to the delight of the Wicomico County community on Monday, July 21.
BBD made the difficult decision to temporarily close Salisbury Donor Center in late February, due to internal resource constraints.
“Thanks to overwhelming support and feedback from the Salisbury community, we’ve worked hard to reallocate resources and staff in order to reopen the donor center,” BBD Vice President Keith Heim said. “We heard you loud and clear, and Salisbury Donor Center is back by popular demand! Reopening Salisbury reflects the commitment that we’re here to serve the community and respond to its needs.”
The Salisbury Donor Center will be open 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays and 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, with expanded hours planned as resources allow.
Donors from various parts of the Eastern Shore were among the first donors to come back to Salisbury, including Claude Taylor, of Chincoteague Island, Virginia; Mary Klein, of Easton, Maryland; and Salisbury residents Debbie Meyers, Donna Anderson, and Brenda McCaleb.
The reopening of Salisbury was covered by local media, namely WBOC, 47ABC and the Salisbury Independent newspaper. Among those interviewed were Heim, BBD Communications Specialist Tony Prado and blood donors who expressed their joy at Salisbury’s reopening. Please see the clips below:
