Inaugural Every Drop Counts Blood Drive set for Saturday, April 6

The Quick Family and the Blood Bank of Delmarva have teamed up to hold the roller coaster inspired, Every Drop Counts Blood Drive on Sunday, April 6.

Caleb Quick’s resilient journey from cancer survivor to roller coaster enthusiast is nothing short of incredible.

Caleb was a healthy, spunky, adventurous 5-year-old before he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in August 2020. Since this most common form of childhood cancer affects the blood, the chemotherapy treatments designed to kill cancer cells also kill healthy blood cells. This makes lifesaving, blood transfusions critical to prevent holds in treatment protocol while numbers recover.

Caleb received three units of packed red blood cells and two units of platelets, administered on three separate occasions over a period of six months, during treatment.. He was treated at Nemours Children’s Hospital, where he received care by experts in the pediatric oncology field.

“As a family, we are committed to raising awareness for childhood cancer and connecting the community to the needs of children who are fighting for their lives!” said his mother, Naomi Quick. “Last year, we rode 106 coasters to raise awareness in a way that brought smiles instead of tears.”

With 106 roller coasters conquered through Quick Coaster Adventures, Caleb’s family is hoping to welcome 106 donors at the April 6 drive. As Caleb himself says, ‘Donating blood helped save my life. You can be a hero and save a life, too!’

Today, Caleb is back to being a healthy, adventurous kid! He loves Captain America, football, soccer, coasters, and outdoor adventures thanks in part to blood donors and Nemours.
