EARLEVILLE, Md. – Back by popular demand, the third annual “Out for Blood” powerlifting open and blood drive is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at Hacks Point Fire Co., combining Jason Painter’s love for powerlifting and his passion for blood donations.

Three years ago, Jason Painter correctly theorized that spectators watching their friends and family compete in a powerlifting open held at Hacks Point Fire Company would walk over to the banquet hall to donate blood. They did just as the powerlifter predicted the past two years.

The inaugural Out for Blood Drive drew 53 donors, good for a total of 55 units of red cells collected, Blood Bank of Delmarva Account Manager Mary Moore said. The second event last year brought in another 41 donors for a total of 44 red cell units.

Jason and his fiancée, Shane Simmons, run the In Honor of Maverick Blood Drive every September. It’s also common to seen Jason donate at his job, Terumo Medical in Elkton. Ever since Maverick needed blood shortly after his birth on September 3, 2018, Jason and Shane have been the biggest advocates for BBD on the Delmarva Peninsula.

The powerlifting competition that coincides with the blood drive is a WRPF sanctioned Also, admission and food sales benefit Hacks Point Fire Company.
